that time I biked 15 miles in a dress

01

Sundays are slowly and surely becoming my favorite.  This past Sunday, I took it upon myself to ride my bike 7.5 miles (and back) to Forest Hills (Tomas's old neighborhood) where a street fair the town has twice a year was taking place on their central street. It was about 85 degrees, so I wanted to wear something light, cool, and flowy.

02

Turns out I wore one of my $4 sundresses (also worn here).  My light blue Biria Citibike makes it possible to wear a dress and ride because the spokes (chains?) are covered, and will not grease up or snag the bottom of the skirt at all. It was a relativity easy ride, and I stayed much cooler than I would have in spandex and sneakers. ;)

03

I use one of those key chain clips to secure the strap of my purse to the basket in case we hit a bump and the bouncing of loose objects occurs.  I also put two bungees in an 'X' formation across the basket for added security.

04

With the exception of 2 or 3 uphill spots, I pedalled and constantly shifted gears the whole 15 miles (gears are God-sends).  That hill above was the big one I knew I was going to have to walk up.

05

In case of any sort of wardrobe malfunction, I had a pair of bike shorts underneath. I didn't wear a helmet and should have (all about bicycle safety), but I had my hair up in a high Carrie bun for comfort and cuteness, and the helmet just wouldn't fit or stay on. Style won out over safety this time.

**Also NOTE: only took photos when on my trail.  My iPhone is not in my hand when I'm biking near or on the street, as my focus is strictly on my surroundings.

Have you ever biked a long distance in a dress?

Here is a list some of my favorite lady-bicyclists who do it all too well: Dottie & Trisha, Sheryl 'Bitchcakes' Yvette, Julie P. Hardee, and Miss Sarah Chan.

...and here is my bicycleLOVE pinterest board for more inspiration to travel through life on two wheels.

Hey June, don't make it bad // Take a sad song and make it better

Hey June 01 | Amanda Rose blog

Hey June 02 | Amanda Rose blog

Hey June 03 | Amanda Rose blog

Hey June 04 | Amanda Rose blog

Hey June 05 | Amanda Rose blog

Yesterday, on the first day of June, my sister and I made a day trip to Williamsburg, Brooklyn to attend Smorgasburg.  I was able to wear only a sundress, as the sun was incessantly shining and the weather was upward of 80 degrees.  We ate Blue Marble Salted Caramel Ice Cream, and I think I've found a new favorite.

It was a lovely afternoon, and since June is the first month of my favorite three of the year (...July & August, too) I look forward to feeling more relaxed and less anxious; feeling more in the moment.  I'm looking forward to Hey June -- taking a sad song and making it better. ♥ Happy Monday!

I M a memory keeper. R U?

We R Mem n A R Z

...and here's the big reveal, readers...the new venture I embarked on several days ago...

I was hired as a designer for the company We R Memory Keepers.

We R Mem corporate offices

Last week, I visited the corporate offices and met the fabulous team behind all the innovative We R products that I've been using for years, and getting a feel for the work vibe and what the job will actually entail.  I'll be designing product to be sold in stores (AH!) and coming up with new ideas for products to aid in memory keeping.

It was an absolute pleasure at that office, but a big challenge as well.  I'm learning rather quickly that designing for fun is very different than designing for a living (post on that coming soon). I certainly have my work cut out for me -- in the best way possible. I'm up for it, and I look forward to where my creativity and this collaboration takes me.  I'll be blogging about the process, and if you follow along, will get first hand peeks at what's it's like to design for a craft company specializing in all things memory-keeping. Excited.

Also, if you were playing along last week with my "Where in the World is Amanda Rose Zampelli?" posts I, II, and III, you would have seen some photos from my trip.  Where was I? Where is We R's corporate office located? Why, none other than...

Salt Lake City

Those mountains!  Uh! Those mountains!  I swear, everytime I caught site of them, I literally breathed the word "wowwww" out of my mouth.  Like, I couldn't hold it in.  I believe Miss Carrie Sunday and Miss Sharon Burkert were on to where I was. Nice sleuthing, ladies! ;)

So yes...the mountains in Salt Lake City, Utah are absolutely breathtaking...as is this opportunity I've been presented with (don't think I don't know it). I plan to work hard, do my best, and fill you in on it as much as I can.  ♥ Stay tuned!

Here are the third and final set of picture clues:

your life story in six words

DreamJob

I've been doing lots of Kal Barteski-style brush script lately via Studio Calico's life|scripted class.
Here is my latest piece.  It's my [current] life story in six words. I got the idea for a six-word memoir in an old Oprah magazine. There was an article that called for people to describe their life using six words.

Some submissions sounded like this:

6 word memoir

You can read tons more here.

What are your current six words? If my current six were yours, what would you do?
Let's discuss in the comments. ♥

my work! at the New York Guitar Festival

My poster at the NYGF 01

Friday night I travelled into downtown Manhattan to see my work (!!!) on display and being sold at the opening night of the New York Guitar Festival.  It was a product of one of the briefs my class worked on in school, and on the last day of class, my teacher told me mine was one of the ones chosen to be sold at the festival. (!!!)

My poster at the NYGF 07

My sister went with me and when we walked into the room, it was way bigger and more legit than I thought it was going to be.  I heard her say "wow" and then start laughing when she saw my poster on display.  We were both a bunch of giggles.  She took my picture standing next to it.

I have a hard time keeping my cool in situations like this.  Obviously. We stayed only about 10 minutes to see it in action.  I took one home to be framed, and then we left. On our way out, my sister said she was proud of me and that the whole thing was awesome.  I agreed.

"The first of many to come," she said. That filled my heart.

"From your mouth to God's ears," I responded.  I sure hope so. I really really hope so.

5K Electric Run

IMG_3908

Friday evening, two of my girlfriends, my sister, and myself participated in the ELECTRIC RUN. Danielle -- the same friend of mine who got me to do the Mud Run last year -- invited me to go early on in the summer, and after imagining completing a 5K at night...with lights and lasers and electronica blaring...plus crazy colored wigs and tutus are the norm attire? SIGN. ME. UP.  I take advantange of any and all opportunities to dress like a drag queen, please and thank you!

So, Friday, after leaving design school a bit early (so bad, I know) I got home just in time to meet Jamina and start get ready for the race. Me, in my aqua blue wig and Jamina in her sassy purple:

Danielle picked us up shortly after, and off we went. Jamina and sister in the back.

The night was just the right temperature, and as fun as it was, by the end we were glad it was over and ready for burgers.

...so that's what we did at 11:15pm at night:

Friday night was fun.  Fun, and unusual. :)

Wishing you a NEONMONDAY, readers & peepers!

On to design school, week 2!

So many of last night's events blew my mind: the concert, the moon, and beyond.  The Bronx was bursting out the seams.  The energy was electric. It doesn't get more 'New York' than Jay-Z, then times him by the venue: Yankee Stadium.  Then multiply him and the venue by the lyrics of 'Empire State of Mind' and a crowd of thousands of people.  Our New York egos reached the moon. The moon was round and full last night; it's cup runneth over.

Thanks for visiting.

Wish you could've been there.
