Amy and Kam's '30 Days of Lists' challenge is a mere three days away from beginning, and it's not too late to sign up. I - however - signed up ages ago, and this post is to talk about how I'm approaching the challenge this time around.
I decided to create a 7x7 hardcover photobook through the website blurb.com.
I chose this approach because I knew at the same time #30Lists would be going on, I'd be participating in Ali Edwards' Week in the Life challenge. My Week in the Life is going to be very scrappy and call for embellishments and the like, so I wanted my 30 Days of Lists book to be completely styled, ready, and only in need of a jotting each day.
September's going to be a busy month, made up of not only 30 Days of Lists and Week in the Life, but also a mini-vacay to Texas, my routine Project Life-ing, the start of graphic design school, and an Electric Run. I needed #30Lists to be as easy for me as possible, and require very little time out of my day to complete.
When you open the book, the first image you see is this ferris wheel photo taken on the East Coast Road Trip I went on last summer. I made this intro page to explain my thinking behind the photo choices for this book and how I'm going to approach writing the lists:
I decided to use 30 of my 2500+ instagram images that contained 'negative space' to make up the content of this book. So, at the same time as this is a book for my lists, it's also a study in photography and a sort of celebration of the photos I've taken using the theme of negative space. It's cool, and I - without a doubt - was inspired by Kam's listing book and Elizabeth's listing book for March's round of #30Lists. (I also just found and love Amy's blurb book from a previous round! Gah!)
I included a cute little caption at the bottom of each page stating what the instagram image on that page is of. Some captions, like at the bottom of the confetti image above, came out perfectly on the page. Others, (see below) did not line up so perfectly and got a bit cut off.
I blame myself for this error because blurb.com does give you the 'safety perimeter' to judge where the limits of your image should be. I have learned for next time to increase the width of the white border all around my image to prevent this from happening the next time. No big deal.
The book, despite this minor flaw, is still adorable and so official looking. I even included an official content claim on the last page equipped with my full name. Hee hee! Most importantly, this book is totally going to serve the easy breezy listing purpose that I need it to.
Thanks, blurb.
